The Queen Bee – Grimm Brothers’ Story for Kids
A long time ago, three princes left their castle to travel and have many adventures. The two older brothers, supposedly smarter and stronger, often mocked the youngest, calling him the “fool.”
On their journey, the two older brothers showed very little compassion for animals and insects. One day, they wanted to destroy an anthill.
Another day, they wanted to hunt ducks just for fun.
And finally, they wanted to burn a beehive to find honey.
But, three times, the youngest brother convinced them not to do it.
They finally reached a palace where only statues could be found. Intrigued, they explored the entire castle, but there was no one. It was as if the castle had been enchanted.
Finally, they found a large man behind a door with three locks.
The man didn’t say anything. He just got up from his table and opened the door to feed them and take each of them to a bedroom.
In the morning, the mysterious man woke up the eldest brother and took him to a stone table. There were three tests inscribed that they would have to pass to save the castle and bring everyone back to life.
The older brother started with the first test, which involved finding the thousand pearls of the princesses in the forest, but he couldn’t overcome it and turned into a statue.
The next day, the second brother tried, but he couldn’t pass the test either, and he also turned into a statue…
Then it was the “fool’s” turn. He was about to give up on the first test in the forest when the ants he had saved from his brothers a few days before arrived.
As a thank you, they went and found the pearls and left them in place. He had passed the first test!
The next day, the second brother tried but also could not pass the test and turned into a statue…
In the second test, he had to find the key to the princesses’ chamber at the bottom of the lake.
The little brother couldn’t swim so deep, but the ducks he had helped came. They went into the water and returned with the key. Second test passed!
The third test was the most difficult… He had to figure out which of the three sleeping princesses in the castle was the youngest. All three looked identical, and it was impossible for him to tell them apart.
The only thing he knew was that before going to sleep, the oldest had eaten a bit of sugar, the second had taken a bit of syrup, and the youngest had tasted a spoonful of honey.
At that moment, the queen of the bees he had saved from the fire also arrived to help. She flew above each princess and stayed above the one who had eaten honey, the youngest! That’s how he managed to pass the third test.
With all three tests passed, the curse was broken, and everyone in the castle came back to life thanks to the boy no one believed in.
